Stony's Dockside Bar & Grill was established in August 2019 by Stony and Laura Johnson. They discovered Ocean View when they started visiting their daughter Carly and son-in-law, Johnny, who was stationed here as a Quarter Master on the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt.

 

Stony and Laura came to Virginia from South Orange New Jersey where they lived and raised their family for 35 years.

Stony is a trained Chef from Johnson and Wales University.  He worked in many restaurants before branching out on his own.  Laura ran their very successful and beloved restaurant, Stony’s, in the heart of South Orange NJ.

 

    Last year Stony and Laura started to entertain the thought of moving out of the metropolitan New Jersey area in order to enjoy a life style change away from the hussle and bussle of New Jersey in exchange for the beach life of Ocean View. Although they were a bit concerned over their move, they quickly fell in love with the Ocean View area. 

 

During their many visits to Carly and Johnny they realized there was a need for more restaurants in the area...Stony found the marina building and decided this was the spot to be their next venture.  

Their youngest son Wyatt worked for the construction team building the restaurant and is now the Bar Manager.

 

  Stony was incredibly fortunate to meet Kevin Cunningham of Cunningham Design and Build.  Kevin has an impeccable reputation in the area, he has built all of the Surf Rider restaurants, Chicks Raw Bar, Lunasea, Tempt and Hearth, to name a few. 

Stony and Kevin have curated a beautiful restaurant together. Kevin’s craftsmanship and wood working skills are evident in all directions. They have transformed the building into a wonderful destination with a fantastic view of the marina.

We are proud to announce that Chef Ronnie Brown has joined they Stony’s Dockside Team!

Ronnie got his start at CrawDad Cafe and has cooked locally since the 80’s. His resume boast some of the top restaurants in the Tidewater area including 501 city Grill, 456 Fish and the Porch. Ronnie brings with him one of his long time Sous Chefs Rodney Bracy. Rodney is one of our own Ocean View natives. He comes from a long career at 219 American Bistro where he and Ronnie met. We are lucky to have such a dynamic duo on our team!
